Anyone who is passionate about glass should not miss a visit to the famous “glassblower’s island” of Murano near Venice. There you will find the “Museo del Vetro” (Glass Museum), which documents the thousand-year history of glass production in Venice and on Murano. In the exhibition you can admire a variety of beautiful historical and also contemporary objects made of glass.

The exhibition of the Murano Glass Museum

The museum consists of two floors and an outdoor area. In some of the exhibition rooms glass objects from the past centuries are displayed. Glass production in Venice in general and on the island of Murano in particular began as early as the Middle Ages. One of the most beautiful and famous exhibits is the Coppa Barovier from the 15th century. The large dark blue goblet, decorated with gold and some figures, was once a noble wedding gift. Those who have taken a liking to the Barovier Cup can buy a copy of it in many stores on Murano. Besides historical glass objects, the museum also displays the works of contemporary glass artists in temporary exhibitions.
