The Walt Disney Concert Hall is one of four event buildings at the Los Angeles Music Center, one of the largest performing arts centers in the United States. Opened in 2003 to plans by world-famous architect Frank Gehry, the building’s curved stainless steel panels make it look a bit like a sailing ship amidst the crests of waves.

The concert hall has room for 2,265 visitors. In addition to the concert hall, the Walt Disney Concert Hall houses wide foyers, which are adjoined by numerous side rooms for introductory events and private gatherings. A garden area was created on the roof of the building. In honor of Lillian Disney, who provided the $50 million in start-up funding for the concert hall, Gehry had a fountain built on the roof out of shards of Delft porcelain, the donor so loved.

Music lovers will experience a true listening pleasure in the Walt Disney Concert Hall, as the special design of the ceiling and walls in the form of corrugated wood and the staggered arrangement of the seats provide excellent acoustics. It is the work of the world-renowned acoustics expert Yasuhisa Toyota, who, incidentally, was also responsible for the acoustics of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

If you can’t manage to get tickets for a concert in the Walt Disney Concert Hall, you can at least see the impressive concert hall for yourself or as part of a guided tour. The tour of the entire building complex, including the roof garden, is free of charge.
