The best way to discover Cais do Sodré is to take a walk along the Ribeira das Naus, the newly built waterfront promenade along the Tagus River. Here you can enjoy a relaxing sunbath with a drink in your hand and watch the passing ships or the young, hip crowd.

The Time Out Market and the Mercado da Ribeira

The main tourist attraction of Cais do Sodre is the famous Time Out Market. The market hall with its dozens of food stalls offering Portuguese and international cuisine, some of a very high standard, is packed at any time of day. No wonder, with this culinary selection. If you like to eat fish, you should not miss a visit to the Mercado da Ribeira (Shore Market). Lisbon’s largest food market is very busy and offers not only fish and seafood, but also cheese and flowers.

Going out in Cais do Sodré

Very popular, both with locals and tourists, is also the nightlife of Cais do Sodré. In a way, the area has benefited from the fact that in Lisbon’s main nightlife district, Bairro Alto, it has not been allowed to serve drinks or play live music after 2 a.m. for some time. Since these rules do not exist in Cais do Sodré, the party life has shifted a bit to the banks of the Tagus.
