Vancouver is one of the very few major cities in the world that has a ski and winter sports area right outside the city gates. Cypress Mountain is located above the city of West Vancouver in the north of the metropolitan region in the North Shore Mountains and can be reached in about half an hour’s drive from downtown Vancouver.

The ski resort of Cypress Mountain has over 50 slopes, which are accessible via six chairlifts. In addition, there are 19 kilometers of cross-country ski trails and a snowtubing park. The bottom station of the ski resort is located at an altitude of about 900 meters. From there, lifts lead to the peaks of 1,454-meter Mount Strachan and 1,193-meter Black Mountain.

The winter season usually lasts from the beginning of December to the end of April. However, due to the coastal location with sometimes relatively warm sea winds and the relatively low altitude, the Cypress Mountain area is not consistently snow-sure.
