Essentials about the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre in brief
Lovers of contemporary art should see the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) during a visit to Bangkok. It is Thailand’s most important museum for contemporary art. From design to painting and photography to music, theater and film, a variety of art forms are exhibited at the BACC. The multi-story building, with its round facades and modern look, is strongly reminiscent of the architecture of the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. It was planned as early as the mid-1990s, but did not open until 2008 due to disputes over funding.
The exhibitions in the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre
The art and culture center presents constantly changing exhibitions on 4,000 square meters. In addition, theater performances, concerts, readings and workshops are organized.
The objective of the BACC is to give national artists a platform to present themselves to the public and at the same time to offer the local population free access to art and culture. In this way, Thai traditional art is to be kept alive and also provided with modern accents. Schools and universities in particular therefore visit the BACC frequently as part of their curriculum. However, the atmosphere in the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is thoroughly international. All exhibits are also described in English, one can visit the museum even without knowledge of Thai.
