MUSÉE CARNAVALET

Description

Essentials about the Musée Carnavalet in brief

Anyone interested in the urban history of Paris should have seen the Musée Carnavalet. It is housed in the only remaining Parisian city palace from the mid-16th century. In this unique architectural setting, the museum presents the history of the French capital in about 100 rooms.

The collection of the Musée Carnavalet

Visitors follow the evolution of downtown Paris over the centuries, brought to life before his eyes through the reconstruction of numerous models and backdrops. In addition, Parisian urban history is illustrated through the example of the private lives of many illustrious inhabitants, such as the Marquise de Sévigné, Voltaire or Proust.

And the collection of the Musée Carnavalet also includes a variety of everyday objects from different centuries. A special feature of the museum is the clock collection, where, unlike in most museums, many clocks are also operated. Visitors to the museum become particularly aware of this at the top of the hour, when the clocks, which are spread across many rooms, strike almost simultaneously.
