Essentials about the Haus des Meeres in brief
The Haus des Meeres (House of the Sea) is one of three zoos in Vienna, along with the Schönbrunn Zoo and the Lainzer Tiergarten. As the name suggests, the focus of the House of the Sea is on fish and other marine life, preferably from the Mediterranean and tropical freshwater habitats. In addition to the aquariums, there is also a terrarium section with reptiles, a tropical house with birds, flying foxes and monkeys, and the so-called Krokipark, where crocodiles, turtles, fish, monkeys and birds can be seen.
The exhibition at the Haus des Meeres
In total, the Haus des Meeres shows more than 10,000 animals on more than 5,000 square meters. With more than half a million visitors annually, the zoo is one of the most visited sights in Vienna. What makes the zoo even more special is its location in a former flak tower from World War II.
