RAINBOW BRIDGE

Description

Essentials about the Rainbow Bridge in brief

The Rainbow Bridge is Tokyo’s most famous bridge. The nearly 800 meter long suspension bridge connects the center of the city with the artificial island of Odaiba at the northern end of Tokyo Bay. From the bridge, you can enjoy a great view of the tallest buildings in the Japanese metropolis, such as the Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Tower, as well as the buildings on Odaiba Island. In clear weather and with good visibility, you can even make out Mount Fuji in the distance from the bridge.

The architecture of the Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge was completed in 1993. It has a total length of 798 meters and a length of 570 meters between the two piers. Traffic on the Rainbow Bridge is carried on two levels. On the upper level, an expressway crosses the bridge. On the lower level, there is a normal road, the Yurikamome metro line and a footpath.

The supporting pillars of the Rainbow Bridge are white to blend in with the skyline of downtown Tokyo as seen from Odaiba. At night, when the Rainbow Bridge is illuminated with red, white and green lamps, the bridge is a particularly popular photo motif.
