The location of Skeppsholmen

The small island of Skeppsholmen is located in the heart of Stockholm between the old town of Gamla stan to the west and the island of Djurgården to the east. Skeppsholmen is connected to the Blasieholmen peninsula by a bridge.

Another bridge leads to the mini island of Kastellholmen (Castle Island) to the south of Skeppsholmen. Kastellholmen is home to the small castle Kastellet, which was built in the middle of the 19th century.

Skeppsholmen’s location is undoubtedly its main attraction. From no other place in the Swedish capital do visitors enjoy such magnificent views over the water, the ships and the beautiful architecture as from here.

Museums on Skeppsholmen

Incidentally, the museum’s permanent exhibition is housed in the underground former military complex Bergrummet.

Housed in the former neoclassical Skeppsholmen Church building, the concert hall is known for its choir, jazz, pop and soul concerts. Last but not least, boat lovers will also find their happiness on Skeppsholmen. There are some beautiful ships moored in the island’s harbors, such as the old sailing ship af Chapman, the transport ship Vive la Vie and the two-master Tre Kronor.
