Essentials about the Court Church in brief
Located directly next to the Hofburg Innsbruck, the Court Church (Hofkirche) is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary churches in Austria. Due to its 28 larger-than-life bronze sculptures, it is also popularly known as the “Schwarz-Mander Church” (“Black Men Church”). The sculptures depict relatives and role models of Emperor Maximilian I, whose tomb is located in the Hofkirche (actually he is buried in a different place). This makes the Schwarz-Mander-Kirche one of the most important art monuments in Tyrol and one of the most impressive imperial tombs in Europe. The Court Church also has special significance for Tyrolean patriots, given that the freedom fighter Andreas Hofer found his last resting place here.
