DONAUINSEL

Description

Essentials about the Donauinsel in brief

The Donauinsel (Danube Island) is a 21-kilometer-long and up to 250-meter-wide artificial island between the Danube and the New Danube in the urban area of Vienna, built between 1972 and 1988. The island was created both for the purpose of flood protection and as a local recreation area. While the northern and southern parts of the island are designed close to nature, the central part was designed park-like.

The Donauinsel as a leisure and recreation area

Today, the Donauinsel is a true recreational paradise and the most popular recreational area for the Viennese. From swimming and boating to cycling and skating to surfing and beach volley games, just about any sporting activity is possible on the Danube Island. Of course, you can also simply relax on the island with a picnic or a walk.

The Donauinsel is especially popular with families and children of all ages. After all, it offers a 250-meter-long and safe family bathing beach, a 5,000-square-meter water playground, a whitewater canal where you can also learn to kayak, the world’s largest floating trampoline facility with 40 fields and a climbing park. So fun and games are guaranteed on the Danube Island.
