Essentials about the Kaiserliche Wagenburg in brief

Those who are more enthusiastic about carriages than cars will find his/her happiness in the Kaiserliche Wagenburg (Imperial Carriage Museum). Located on the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace, the Wagenburg is now a museum that houses the remains of the Viennese court’s fleet of more than 600 vehicles. In addition, the Wagenburg also houses the former carriages and carriages of other famous noble houses. The Imperial Carriage Museum is thus one of the most important collections of courtly ceremonial and utility vehicles.

The collection of the Kaiserliche Wagenburg

Showpieces of the collection are the so-called “Imperial Carriage”, which was probably built for Emperor Charles VI in the mid-18th century, and the black hearse, which was used, among other things, for the funerals of Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Elisabeth. In addition, numerous smaller and simpler gala carriages, children’s carriages, sports, leisure and touring vehicles are also on display.
