Description

Essentials about the Fin-de-Siècle Museum in brief

Since 2013, Place Royale has been home to a museum dedicated to the art of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The Musée Fin-de-Siècle (Museum of the Turn of the Century) shows a variety of works from different art disciplines, from literature and poetry to music and opera, architecture and photography. Both Belgian and international artists are featured in the exhibition.

The exhibition in the Fin-de-Siècle Museum

The Musée Fin-de-Siècle offers visitors a worthwhile tour of the art of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, placed in its historical context. The exhibition focuses on the period from 1865, the founding year of the Brussels Société libre des Beaux-Arts (Free Society of Fine Arts), to 1914, the year World War I broke out. This period was one of the most fruitful in the history of mankind in almost all disciplines of art, from literature and poetry to music and opera, architecture and photography. Brussels was one of the artistic hotspots of the European continent at the time.

The museum features works by Belgian artists James Ensor, Henri Evenepoel, Victor Horta, Fernand Khnopff, Maurice Kufferath, Guillaume Lekeu, Maurice Maeterlinck, Octave Maus, Constantin Meunier, Léon Spilliaert, Henry Van de Velde and Emile Verhaeren, among others. International artists in the exhibition include Pierre Bonnard, Emile Gallé, Paul Gauguin, Louis Majorelle, Alfons Mucha and Auguste Rodin.
