LAPA

Description

Essentials about Lapa in brief

Lapa district, located in the center of Rio de Janeiro, is one of the most interesting areas of the city. It is especially known for its architecture. With a length of 270 meters and a height of almost 18 meters, the Carioca Aqueduct is the most striking structure of Lapa. In addition, the impressive Rio de Janeiro Cathedral is located in Lapa. Last but not least, Lapa is known for its vibrant art and nightlife scene. Lapa is the hotspot of Rio de Janeiro’s music scene.

The Rio de Janeiro Cathedral

Next to the Carioca Aqueduct, Lapa’s second well-known and equally impressive structure is the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral. The massive structure, reminiscent of a Mayan pyramid from the outside, is an interesting contrast to most other cathedrals in the world, especially because of its extremely simple aesthetics, and thus definitely worth a visit even for non-believers.

The art and nightlife scene of Lapa

Above all, Lapa is known for its vibrant art and nightlife scene. Rio’s intellectuals and artists have always met in the neighborhood’s many restaurants and bars. Lapa is also the hotspot of the city’s music scene. Here you will find not only some of Rio’s best samba clubs, but also venues serving Música Popular Brasileira (Brazilian Pop), Forró, electro, rock and other styles. The Sala Cecilia Meireles, the city’s best concert hall for chamber music, is also located in Lapa.
