If you are looking for a district with beautiful (and rich) people, first-class restaurants, trendy bars and a fantastic beach, you should make your way to Leblon. Rio de Janeiro’s probably most prosperous district has all this to offer, and yet it is considerably less known and therefore less overrun with tourists than its two neighboring districts on the Atlantic, Ipanema and Copacabana.

The location of Leblon

Leblon is the geographical continuation of Ipanema to the west. The two neighborhoods are separated only by a small channel that connects the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon with the ocean. Although the beaches of Ipanema and Leblon merge almost seamlessly, the section in Leblon is much quieter than that in Ipanema. The inhabitants of Leblon are probably not sad about the fact that their district has not yet made it onto the tourist map.

Eating and drinking in Leblon

In addition to its wonderful beach, Leblon has a reputation above all as a gastronomic mecca of Rio. In no other district can you find such a high density of first-class restaurants with international cuisine as in Leblon. And if you want to mingle with Rio’s rich and beautiful, you will find a multitude of bars in Leblon where “to see and be seen” is the highest civic duty. However, one should not make the mistake of thinking that Leblon is a pure yuppie and snooty district. There are also plenty of places here where things are a bit more relaxed and which are also a bit more conducive to the travel budget.
