MUSEUM OF MODERN ART IN RIO DE JANEIRO

Description

Essentials about the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro in brief

Lovers of modern art should not miss the Museu de Arte Moderna (Museum of Modern Art) on a trip to Rio de Janeiro. With a collection of over 15,000 works, mainly of Brazilian origin, the Museu de Arte Moderna is one of the most important art museums in Brazil.

The museum is located in the south of the city center, right at the beginning of the large Flamengo Park. It is housed in a postmodern museum building by Affonso Eduardo Reidy, completed in 1955. The gardens were designed by the famous architect Roberto Burle Marx.

After a serious fire disaster in 1978, which destroyed 90 percent of the holdings (including works by Picasso, Dalí and Míro), the collection was rebuilt through various donations and purchases.
