Located in North Vancouver, the park begins at the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge (which, however, is private property and not part of the park) and extends along the Capilano River to Cleveland Dam, which dams the river to Capilano Lake. The dense growth of the coastal rainforest with its giant Douglas firs and red cedars and the steep canyon cliffs quickly make you forget that you are in the middle of Canada’s third largest metropolitan region. Hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty crisscross the park. One of the most popular trails runs along the Capilano River, where kayakers and canoeists are often seen.

Attractions in Capilano River Regional Park

Besides the beautiful nature, Cleveland Dam is the main attraction of the park. Visitors can cross the dam for free and enjoy a great view of the Capilano Lake Reservoir above and the whitewater of the Capilano River below.

In addition, there is still a salmon hatchery in the park. Here you can learn about the life cycle of salmon and watch the fish during their spawning migration on a fish ladder that bypasses the dam.
