Essentials about Hong Kong Disneyland in brief

Disney and theme park fans definitely have one must-see item on their bucket list when traveling to Hong Kong, and that is Hong Kong Disneyland. After the parks in California, Florida, Tokyo and Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, which opened in 2005, was the fifth Walt Disney theme complex in the world. It is located in Penny Bay on the northeastern tip of Lantau Island. The entire Hong Kong Disneyland Resort consists of the Disney theme park with over 30 attractions, three hotels, over 20 restaurants, and various shopping and entertainment venues. With a total area of 126 hectares, Hong Kong Disneyland is the smallest of the world’s current Disney parks. With over eight million visitors per year, Hong Kong Disneyland is one of the most popular attractions in the city.

The theme zones of Hong Kong Disneyland

As is usual with Disney parks, Hong Kong Disneyland also consists of various themed zones in which the attractions are dedicated to a particular theme or movie. In Hong Kong these are: Main Street USA, Adventureland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, Toy Story Land, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.

Here is a brief description of each theme zone:

Main Street, U.S.A.

Main Street, U.S.A. is strongly inspired by its sister street in the first Disneyland in the USA. The buildings in Hong Kong are almost identical to those in Anaheim, California, and mimic a typical American small town at the end of the 19th / beginning of the 20th century. As in other Disney theme parks, Main Street represents the entrance to the park. This is also where most of the restaurants are located.

Adventureland

The Adventureland zone in Hong Kong is the largest of all Disney parks in the world. Here you can find the Jungle River Cruise with Tarzan’s Treehouse. In addition, shows like “Festival of the Lion King” or “Moana” are shown here.

Fantasyland

The main attraction of Fantasyland is the Sleeping Beauty Castle. Visitors will also find several attractions based on the films Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Cinderella. And in the Fantasy Gardens, you’ll run into Disney characters in disguise.

Tomorrowland

At Tomorrowland, fans of Iron Man and Star Wars will get their money’s worth. At Stark Expo, visitors are immersed in the world of Stark Industries and can marvel at the famous Iron Man suit, the reactor plant and the gravity-defying Iron Wing. In the Iron Man Experience, you’ll fly to the newest skyscraper on the Hong Kong skyline (called Stark Tower, of course) with the help of StarkVision goggles, and finally, in the Iron Man Tech Showcase, you’ll have the opportunity to meet Iron Man in person.

Star Wars fans can enjoy starfighters, flight suits and pilot helmets in the Tomorrowland Takeover X-Wing and then prove themselves as pilots in Hyperspace Mountain and meet Chewbacca and R2-D2 in the Star Wars Command Center. If that’s not enough for you, you can also take a Jedi Knight training. Recruits are dressed in Jedi robes and receive secret training with a Jedi Master.

Toy Story Land

In Toy Story Land, everything revolves around the Disney classic Toy Story, of course. Here you’ll run into Woody, Rex and Luxo Jr.

Grizzly Gulch

Grizzly Gulch is the Hong Kong equivalent of Frontierland at most other Disney parks. The zone is designed in the style of an abandoned mining town in the Wild West. The main attraction in Grizzly Gulch is the Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars, a roller coaster that winds through canyons and mines.

Mystic Point

Opened in 2013, Mystic Point is the newest themed zone at Hong Kong Disneyland. Mystic Point is a kind of outpost in the middle of an unexplored rainforest, where mysterious and supernatural forces reign. The main characters of Mystic Point are Lord Henry Mystic, a world traveler and adventurer, and his mischievous monkey Albert.

Future theme zones

Hong Kong Disneyland’s themed zones will be further expanded and rebuilt in the coming years. In 2021, for example, Frozen Land was created, the fictional kingdom of Arendelle. There are also plans to partially convert Tomorrowland into a Marvel-themed zone with attractions featuring Ant-Man, The Wasp and the Avengers.
