Essentials about the Berlin Wall Memorial in brief

The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central place of remembrance of the German division and the victims of death at the Berlin Wall. The large open-air exhibition stretches 1.4 kilometers along the former border strip and includes four themed stations with historical audio and visual material, a visitor center and a viewing tower. Directly on Bernauer Strasse, a 70-meter-long piece of the Berlin Wall with border strip and watchtower was reconstructed (the wall pieces came from other sections) to give visitors an impression of the structure that once separated Berlin and Germany.

The exhibitions of the Berlin Wall Memorial

The exhibition in the Documentation Center shows the history of the construction of the Wall in 1961. Visitors can take a look at the border fortifications from a five-story observation tower. In addition, the Chapel of Reconciliation is located on the grounds. The former Church of Reconciliation was blown up in 1985 because it was located directly on the border strip. The so-called Window of Remembrance on the grounds portrays the 130 people who were shot or died at the Berlin Wall.
