The Außenalster (Outer Alster) is one of the attractions that make Hamburg such a unique city. The 164 hectares of water north of the city center are among the most beautiful spots in Hamburg and are a wonderful local recreation area. If you want to enjoy a unique view of the skyline of the Hanseatic city, you can either take a boat trip on one of the Alster ships, rent a boat yourself or go for a 7.5-kilometer walk around the water. This walk is also recommended to all architecture fans, as the neighborhoods adjacent to the Außenalster are among the most beautiful in the city.
