For film fans, a visit to the EYE Film Instituut Nederland should definitely be part of an Amsterdam trip. The EYE is the national film museum of the Netherlands and has about 50,000 films, more than 35,000 film posters and almost half a million photographs.

The attractions of the EYE Film Institute Netherlands

The museum’s self-imposed goal is the preservation of the film historical heritage and also the preservation of a living film culture in the Netherlands. Therefore, the collection consists mainly of Dutch productions, but also foreign films that have been shown in Dutch cinemas. The museum has two cinema halls, the largest Dutch library of film literature and a popular café-restaurant.

Since 2012, the EYE Film Instituut Nederland has been housed in a spectacular new building on the north side of the IJ on the former site of the Shell oil company. Right next to the EYE is the A’DAM Tower.
