If you go shopping in Amsterdam, you will inevitably end up on Kalverstraat (Calves Street). The 750-meter-long street, running north-south from Dam Square to Muntplein, is the city’s main shopping street and therefore has the most expensive rents of all shopping streets in the Netherlands (in the Dutch version of Monopoly, by the way, Kalverstraat is also the most expensive street). On Kalverstraat you can find not only the usual retail suspects like H&M, Zara or Esprit, but also a variety of fancy shoe stores, bookstores and fashion stores. Kalverstraat is named after the cattle market that was held here in the period from 1486 to 1629.
