Essentials about the Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam in brief
The Verzetsmuseum (Resistance Museum) documents the resistance of the Dutch against the occupation of their country by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. The history of the resistance of parts of the population against the German occupiers is told by means of letters, photos, posters, objects and personal fates. Also the collaboration of some Dutch with the occupiers is not left out. In the Verzetsmuseum Junior, the resistance is presented in a child-friendly way through the story of four Dutch children.
The building of the Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam
The museum was opened in 1984 and is located in the Plancius Building, a former music hall and theater building of the Jewish Community of Amsterdam, directly opposite the entrance to the Artis zoo. The original purpose of the museum is still commemorated by the Star of David on the façade of the museum building.
