The Spanish Riding School is not only worth a visit for riders and horse enthusiasts. After all, it is the oldest riding school in the world and the only institution in the world where classical horsemanship in the Renaissance tradition of the “High School” has been cultivated for more than 450 years. It is no wonder that the Court Riding School is therefore listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Visiting the Spanish Riding School

The Spanish Riding School, located in the Hofburg in the heart of Vienna’s Old Town, was originally used for the equestrian training of the imperial family. Since time immemorial, only Lipizzaners have been trained, the famous white stallions that today enchant horse lovers from Austria and abroad with their “white ballet”. In addition to the actual performances, one can also watch the horsebreakers doing their morning work with the Lipizzaner stallions and take guided tours of the Spanish Riding School.
