Essentials about the ArtScience Museum in brief

The ArtScience Museum in Singapore is in some ways a new kind of museum concept. As the name suggests, it is a mixture of an art and a science museum. The museum, which opened in 2011, is the first museum in all of Asia to pursue this integrated exhibition approach.

The building of the ArtScience Museum

The ArtScience Museum is part of the Marina Bay Sands resort complex and one of Singapore’s architectural highlights. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, the museum building is reminiscent of a lotus blossom (for some, more like a banana tree). However, it is equally meant to symbolize Singapore’s open hand with its 10 fingers. The special shape of the building also allows daylight to enter the building’s interior. There, temporary exhibitions on a wide variety of art and science topics are shown in a total of 21 galleries covering a total area of around 4,600 square meters.

However, the museum also houses a permanent exhibition entitled A Journey Through Creativity. Three galleries called “Curiosity,” “Inspiration” and “Expression” feature exhibits on mankind’s artistic and scientific achievements, such as Leonardo da Vinci’s flying machine or a robotic fish.
