Essentials about the MacRitchie Reservoir in brief

The MacRitchie Reservoir and its surroundings are one of the most popular recreational areas for Singaporeans. And with good reason, because the reservoir and the surrounding Central Catchment Nature Reserve are a true paradise for walkers, joggers, water sports enthusiasts and, of course, nature lovers. Built in 1868, MacRitchie Reservoir is the oldest of four reservoirs in the center of the city-state of Singapore. Today it is part of a water catchment system for rainwater.

Walks at the MacRitchie Reservoir

The reservoir and nature reserve are certainly one of Singapore’s most beautiful settings for an extended walk. Walkers can either take a lakeside path along the lake or tackle the 11-kilometer MacRitchie Trail nature trail in the nature reserve’s tropical rainforest. Chances are good to run into long-tailed macaques, squirrels and monitor lizards on the trail. With a little luck, you may even see giant gliders (flying lemurs) or owls.

The TreeTop Walk and other attractions

For those who prefer to walk at airy heights and enjoy the tranquility above the treetops, the TreeTop Walk offers the opportunity to do so. The 250-meter-long, freestanding suspension bridge connects the two highest points at MacRitchie Reservoir and offers breathtaking views of the natural landscape at its feet.

And for those who prefer to be on the water, the reservoir can of course also be navigated by kayak or canoe.
