SOUTHERN RIDGES

Description

Essentials about the Southern Ridges in brief

Although Singapore is a huge sea of houses interspersed with many skyscrapers, the city-state is also an exceptionally green city. A particularly interesting part of the “green Singapore” are the so-called Southern Ridges. This is a natural area consisting of several adjacent parks and gardens that stretches for over 10 kilometers across the hills to the south of the city, with areas connected by scenic walking trails. For nature lovers, hiking enthusiasts, birdwatchers and amateur photographers, this is a true paradise.

Walks in the Southern Ridges

The Southern Ridges connect Kent Ridge Park, Hort Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, Mount Faber Park and Labrador Nature Reserve. The Southern Ridges walking and hiking trails bring visitors unusually close to nature and allow them to experience a wide range of tropical flora and fauna right in the center of Singapore. As a bonus, Southern Ridges walkers can enjoy some of the best photo spots in Singapore, with magnificent views of the city skyline, harbor and offshore southern islands.

The Henderson Waves

The Southern Ridges are also exceptional from an architectural point of view, as some of the trails cross spectacular bridges and passages. A particular highlight is the so-called Henderson Waves, an undulating bridge with a series of curved “ribs”. At a height of 36 meters, the Henderson Waves connect Mount Faber Park with Telok Blangah Hill Park and are thus the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore.
