ARDERNE GARDENS

Description

Essentials about Arderne Gardens in brief

Not only tree lovers should make their way to the Arderne Gardens, because they are one of the most beautiful (tree) parks in Cape Town. Founded in 1845 by English timber merchant Ralph Henry Arderne, the 4.5-hectare park is located in the suburb of Claremont and is home to over 400 trees. Unlike the nearby Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Arderne Gardens focuses on the cultivation of exotic tree species. Just as you enter the park, there is a large-leaf fig (“Moreton Bay fig”) – one of the largest specimens in all of South Africa. Not surprisingly, the tree enjoys great popularity among wedding photographers, hence its nickname “The Wedding Tree”.
