MUSEU DE LA XOCOLATA

Description

Essentials about the Museu de la Xocolata in brief

The Museu de la Xocolata (Chocolate Museum) is, of course, an absolute must for chocolate lovers when visiting Barcelona. The museum provides information about the long history of chocolate, its origins and its use in the advanced civilizations of Latin America, and how it found its way to Europe in the 16th century and was used both as a food and medicine (even as an aphrodisiac).

The exhibition of the Museu de la Xocolata

In addition, a wide space is also devoted to the production of chocolate from the harvesting of cocoa beans to industrial processing. The museum exhibits many machines used in various manufacturing processes – from grinding the dried beans to pouring them into bars.

In addition to the historical and technical parts, the Chocolate Museum also exhibits quite a few works of art made of chocolate, such as representative buildings of Barcelona or imitations of famous paintings. Unfortunately, the artworks are not for biting into and the smell of chocolate everywhere in the air does not make things easier.

Fortunately, you can buy plenty of chocolate varieties and other treats in the museum store or enjoy an original Xocoatl in the museum café. If you’re even more passionate about chocolate, the Museu de la Xocolata also hosts regular events, tours and workshops on the subject.
