TEATRO REAL

Description

Essentials about Teatro Real in brief

Opera fans should definitely try to get tickets for a performance at Teatro Real (Royal Theater) on a trip to Madrid . Located in Plaza de Oriente right next to the Royal Palace of Madrid, the opera house is definitely one of the most beautiful and best in Europe.

The history of Teatro Real

Teatro Real was built between 1818 and 1850 according to the designs of architect Antonio López Aguada. On November 19, 1850, Teatro Real was ceremoniously opened in the presence of Queen Isabella II. In the following decades, the house developed into one of the most important opera houses in Europe. At the beginning of the 20th century, Teatro Real fell into a decades-long slumber due to dilapidation, from which it was only reawakened in 1966, initially as a pure concert hall. After several years of renovation, the Royal Theater has once again served as an opera house since 1997.

The building of Teatro Real

Teatro Real has a capacity of around 1,800 seats. The jewel of the interior is the Royal Box, which is twice as high as the rest of the boxes. The only floor dedicated exclusively to the public is La Rotonda, which completely surrounds the building. Here there are four theater halls decorated in different colors, with plays from the National Cultural Heritage and the Museo del Prado. Incidentally, if you can no longer get tickets for Teatro Real, you can also see the Royal Theater on a guided tour.
