Istanbul is a city with a very long history and accordingly a lot of historical art. Since 2004, the city now also has a museum for contemporary art. The Istanbul Modern is the first private museum in Turkey with exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Located in the Beyoğlu district on the European side of Istanbul, the museum displays mainly works by Turkish artists on 8,000 square meters of exhibition space. In temporary exhibitions, the museum presents contemporary art of international standing. In addition, the Istanbul Modern also has photo galleries, a cinema, a restaurant, a design store and an extensively stocked library.
