A visit to Los Angeles is of course not complete without seeing the world famous Disney parks. Since 2001, the Disney California Adventure Park has been located right next to the world-famous Disneyland Park. With around ten million visitors a year, Disney California Adventure Park is one of the most popular and busiest amusement parks in the world. As the name suggests, there is plenty of adventure, action, fun and excitement guaranteed here for all ages.

The areas of Disney California Adventure Park

Diskey California Adventure Park consists of seven areas: Buena Vista Street, Pixar Pier, Paradise Gardens Park, Grizzly Peak, Pacific Wharf, Hollywood Land and Cars Land.

Buena Vista Street

Directly behind the main entrance, Buena Vista Street begins, reminiscent of Los Angeles in the 1920s – the time when a young man named Walt Disney moved to the city. Buena Vista Street follows the same concept as Main Street at Disneyland. It leads visitors past many souvenir stores to the center of the park, where Sunshine Plaza is located. From the Plaza, all areas of the park can be reached.

Pixar Pier

Pixar Pier is an idealized version of California’s much-loved waterfront promenades and piers, such as the Santa Monica Pier. The attractions in Pixar Pier are based on the animated films produced by Pixar Studios. Pixar Pier is divided into four other areas: Incredibles Park, Toy Story Boardwalk, Pixar Promenade and Inside Out Headquarters.

Incredibles Park is inspired by the movie of the same name, The Incredibles. The main attraction here is the Incredicoaster, a roller coaster of sorts. Toy Story Boardwalk is based on the movie Toy Story. Here, visitors can expect attractions like Jessie’s Critter Carousel and Toy Story Midway Mania! The Pixar Promande mimics a classic California Victorian-style boardwalk with the main attraction Pixar Pal-A-round, a type of Ferris wheel with Pixar character-style gondolas. And the Inside Out Headquarters are based on the movie Inside Out. The main attraction is the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind spinner.

Paradise Gardens Park

Paradise Gardens Park is designed like a Victorian-style coastal park. Here, visitors can expect attractions such as the roller coaster Goofy’s Sky School, the dark ride The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure and the chain carousel Silly Symphony Swings. In the evening, Paradise Bay features the World of Color water show with fountains, light projections and flame effects.

Grizzly Peak

Grizzly Peak is modeled after California’s Yosemite and Redwood National Parks. The main attraction in this area is the Grizzly River Run, a whitewater ride around Grizzly Peak Mountain. Additionally, there is the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, a play area with elements from the movies Brother Bear and Up. Also included in the Grizzly Peak area is Grizzly Peak Airfield, which is modeled after a 1950s airfield. The Soarin’ Around the World attraction takes you on a dragon flight over landscapes, places and landmarks on every continent in the world.

Pacific Wharf

Pacific Wharf is modeled after the “Strait of the Oil Sardines” in Monterey from the world-famous novel by John Steinbeck. However, Pacific Wharf is also somewhat reminiscent of Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. It is home to a variety of restaurants, snack and wine bars, candy stores and bakeries.

Hollywood Land

Hollywood Land is inspired by the golden age of Hollywood in the 1930s. The area is modeled after a Hollywood movie studio’s backlot, which is any area of a studio where outdoor sets are built. Hollywood Land attractions include Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! attraction, a dark ride featuring the characters from the Disney film Monsters, Inc. and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!, a freefall tower featuring the characters from the Marvel series.

Cars Land

Cars Land simulates the town of Radiator Springs as well as the neighboring landscape on Route 66 from the Pixar movie Cars. Cars Land includes three driving attractions as well as several stores and restaurants. The main attraction is Radiator Springs Racers, where visitors are guided through scenes from the Cars movie in electric-powered cars, concluding with a simulated race outdoors.
