FARMERS MARKET

Description

Essentials about the Farmers Market in brief

Foodies in Los Angeles should definitely make their way to perhaps the most important gastronomic institution in LA: The Farmers Market. Located south of Hollywood, the Los Angeles Farmers Market was established back in 1934 and since then has offered a truly delicious range of food and dishes from almost all international cuisines, which can now be tasted and purchased at over 100 market stalls.

The history of the Farmers Market

Historically, the Farmers Market dates back to entrepreneurs Fred Beck and Roger Dahlhjelm, who decided to establish a permanent farmers market in the early 1930s. In 1934, the first farmers began selling their produce from trucks at the market’s current location. That same year, the first permanent stalls opened, as well as the first restaurants. The Farmers Market was a great success from the beginning and quickly became one of Angelenos’ favorite places to buy food and go out to eat. In 1948, the distinctive clock tower was built, which is now the landmark of the market. Due to its equal popularity with tourists, the Farmers Market was renovated and expanded in the 1990s.

The Shopping Mall The Grove at Farmers Market

In 2002, the open-air shopping mall The Grove at Farmers Market was inaugurated on part of the market. In contrast to the often uniform and monotonous American malls, The Grove, with its small storefronts that look more like a small European town, can be seen as a welcome change. If your belly or shopping bags are too full to walk from the Farmers Market to The Grove or vice versa, you can also cover the short distance on a classically styled streetcar.
