Essentials about Bronx Zoo in brief

Covering approximately 300 acres, the Bronx Zoo is New York City’s largest zoo and the largest zoo located in a city in the United States. Opened in 1899, the zoo is home to more than 4,300 animals from over 750 species. A unique feature of the Bronx Zoo is that the division of the animal enclosures was made based on geography. Starting in the north at the Rainey Gate Entrance for a clockwise tour, you’ll roam through North America, Asia, Africa and South America in succession. In keeping with its name, “International Wildlife Conservation Park,” the Bronx Zoo is home to many species that have become extinct in the wild. The zoo also has its own children’s zoo with a petting zoo and playground.
