Bryant Park is a small green oasis in the middle of the skyscraper canyons of Midtown Manhattan. The park is located between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue at the height of West 40th and West 42nd Streets. Because of its very central location and its diverse program of events, Bryant Park enjoys great popularity among New Yorkers themselves as well as tourists.

Events in Bryant Park

The park is named after the American writer, lawyer and journalist William Cullen Bryant. It was created between 1823 and 1840. With an area of 39,000 square meters, the park is rather a smaller one among the many green spaces in New York City. But what Bryant Park lacks in area, it easily makes up for in program. Especially in summer, many events take place on the green space.

A real experience is the open-air cinema every Monday, where New Yorkers of all ages and social classes gather in front of the screen. In winter, the park hosts an ice rink for skaters, a Christmas tree and a Christmas market called Winter Village.

The buildings at Bryant Park

In the park on the side facing Fifth Avenue is the New York Public Library. One of New York City’s tallest skyscrapers adjoins its northern corner: The 366-meter Bank of America Tower, completed in 2009. The park is surrounded by other skyscrapers. On West 40th Street, across from the park, is the Art Deco American Standard Building (now the Bryant Park Hotel). Numerous Manhattan landmarks are located in the immediate vicinity of Bryant Park, such as Times Square.
