Project Description

CONTEMPORARY JEWISH MUSEUM

Description

Essentials about the Contemporary Jewish Museum in brief

The Contemporary Jewish Museum is one of the younger museums in San Francisco. It was founded in 1984 and has been located in an architecturally interesting ensemble of buildings since 2008. This consists of a former transformer station from the 19th century, which was redesigned for the museum and supplemented by a deconstructivist extension by the American star architect Daniel Liebeskind (incidentally, Liebeskind also designed the Jewish Museum in Berlin).

The exhibitions in the Contemporary Jewish Museum

The Contemporary Jewish Museum is unusual in that it does not have a permanent exhibition. Instead, the museum shows a wide range of temporary exhibitions, often in cooperation with other institutions. The museum’s objective is to present the diversity of Jewish life and its relevance for the 21st century. So it is worth taking a look at the museum calendar.
