Visiting the Marin Headlands

We recommend a drive along Conzelman Road, which winds along the coast to the Golden Gate and offers a variety of magnificent photo opportunities. Various old battery emplacements along the road are evidence of a time when the Marin Headlands were not used for tourism but for military purposes. If you are in good shape, you should do the tour by bike. A bike trip to the Marin Headlands can also be combined with a trip over the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Marin Headlands are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the largest recreation park in the United States. With its many hiking and biking trails, the coastal section is therefore also a popular destination for residents of the surrounding area. Popular destinations include Rodeo Beach with its lagoon behind it and the spectacularly located Point Bonita Lighthouse. Those planning a trip to Marin Headlands should visit the Marin Headlands Visitor Center in the historic Fort Barry Chapel (at the intersection of Field Road and Bunker Road) in advance.
